The 2017 Hamburg cruise year at a glance

• The season will last for a total of twelve months. Hamburg strengthens its position as a year-round destination with most likely 800.000 Passengers this year. A new record!

• May will be the busiest month, with a total of 29 ship’s calls and a corresponding passenger volume of approx. 120,000.

• Six cruise ships (the “AIDAvita”, “AIDAprima”, “AIDAluna”, “AIDAsol”, “Astor”, und MSC Preziosa”) will be attending the 828th Hamburg Port Anniversary celebrations (5th to 7th May 2017).

• The Highlight 2017 forms the Hamburg Cruise Days from 8th to 10th September. Nine cruise ships and one river cruise ship will attend the Hamburg Cruise Days. The following nine cruise liners will be dropping anchor in Hamburg during the 2017 Hamburg Cruise Days: “Albatros” and “Amadea” (both Phoenix Reisen), “Europa” and “Europa 2” (both Hapag-Lloyd Cruises), “AIDAprima” (AIDA Cruises), “MSC Preziosa” (MSC Cruises) and “Silver Wind” (Silversea Cruises). On Saturday, the grand Hamburg Cruise Days Parade will be held with 6 cruise liners and a huge firework display.

• In 2017 AIDA Cruises continues to be the cruise line with the greatest presence in Hamburg. Six AIDA liners (the “AIDAcara”, “AIDAluna”, “AIDAmar”, “AIDAprima”, “AIDAsol” und “AIDAvita”) will be setting course for Hamburg 82 times. As often as never before!

• MSC Cruises will be the port’s second-most frequent guest during the season. “MSC Preziosa” will berth at Hamburg 17 times. Their recent newbuild will start to call to the Hanseatic city frequently beginning on the 3rd Mai 2017 until beginning of October 2017. MSC Cruises will be permanently represented during the summer season 2018 with two cruise ships (“MSC Preziosa” and the newbuild “MSC Meraviglia”).

• On third position Hapag-Lloyd Cruises follows with a total of 14 calls to Hamburg. The whole HLC fleet (the “Europa 2”, “Europa”, “Bremen” and “Hanseatic”) will call at the port of Hamburg during the course of the year and is therefore a constant guest.

• Hamburgs cruise line TUI Cruises’ ships will call at the port a total of 14 times in 2017 and therefore shares the third place. The christening ceremony of the youngest fleet member, “Mein Schiff 6”, will take place on May 7th.

• In 2017 the Cunard Line “Queens” will berth in Hamburg a total of 7 times – the “Queen Mary 2” four times and the “Queen Elizabeth” three times. “Queen Elizabeth” started Hamburgs cruise year 2017 on January 5th.

• New this year will be Norwegian Cruise Line. For the first time NCL offers cruises from and to Hamburg. The “Norwegian Jade” will be a frequent visitor in Hamburg with a total of 7 calls from June to September, cruising to the Northland, Iceland and the British Islands.

• Costa Cruises will retain a stable presence in the city in 2017 with the “Costa Pacifica” calling at the port a total of 5 times.

• The German tour operators Plantours & Partner as well as Phoenix Reisen will also visit the Port of Hamburg in 2017. With a total of 13 calls Phoenix Reisen is fourth-most frequent visitor to the metropolis on the Elbe River. The entire Phoenix fleet will come to Hamburg including “Deutschland” and “Amadea”. Plantour & Partners will berth at the Port of Hamburg four times with their “Hamburg”.

• Spectators will be able to enjoy a total of 6 maiden calls during the 2017 season. First-time visitors to Hamburg will be: the “MSC Preziosa”, “Mein Schiff 6”, “Norwegian Jade”, “Independence of the Seas”, ”Silver Wind” and “Columbus”.

• The most frequent visitor to Hamburg will be the “AIDAprima” with a total of 45 calls.

• The 2017 season will conclude with the New Year’s call of P&O Cruises’ “Aurora” on 31 December 2016.

• There will be a total of 37 double calls, 9 triple calls, one quadruple and even one sextuple call.
